timberblind door
mild steel and hardwood timber.
The timberblind door found
design for a main entrance
with a pivot between two
faces of entry: a narrower
grilled harp side leading to
a pool terrace for garden
parties, and a wider timber-
slatted face swinging into a
lobby and living room.
In contrast to the gruff
finishes around it, the door
was designed as a refined
post-tensioned plane of
timber and tooled steel,
with its method of assembly
concealed for a contiguous
finish: each timber batten
was strung horizontally
into the steel door frame
with three vertically aligned
stainless steel rods. Battens
infilled, the assembly was
then post-tensioned into a
taut, rigid timber blind of
opaque countenance.
